I got Shadow, aka Crackhead, at six weeks old. This is two weeks earlier than a dog should be taken from it’s mother. I brought it home, looked around and said, “Well shit, now what?” I thought I had done the research, googled the hell out of how to handle a new puppy. You wanna know something, it DID NOT prepare me for the next TWO years.

Shadow cried every two hours or so in the middle of the night for me to take her out. Now I do not know about you, but when I first got Shadow, I lived in a pretty country area of Pennsylvania, and going out by the woods at night, was not something I really looked forward to. (This is one of the many things I did not think about when I decided to get a dog) Nevertheless, there I was, middle of the night, flashlight in hand, puppy in the other, in my sleep shorts and shirt trying to hope that Shadow peed or pooped. Then carrying her back inside to praise her and put her back in her kennel where she would cry for 10-15 minutes before settling back down. Needless to say, I was EXHAUSTED after a week of doing this.

Does this situation sound familiar? Don’t worry, you are not alone and it does not last forever. This page will follow my story of my dogs and the many lessons learned, from grooming, training, to trying not to lose my shit when there is yet ANOTHER accident in the house. I look forward to hearing about your journey as well!!
